Course Description:

In this workshop, we'll be discussing how 3 different nonprofits all had a successful Arizona Gives Day in 2021.

In this session, you will learn:

  • What strategies each organization used to make their Gives Day work for them and their team
  • What best practices to use if your organization is similar in size, mission type, or other facet
  • How they successfully engaged old and new donors on the platform

Terri Durham | Seeds of Hope |Casa Grande

Terri Durham is the Office Coordinator for Seeds of Hope. She has led her organization to place in the top three Mid-size or Rural Arizona Gives Day categories 7 year in a row. Her passion for maximizing potential in others gets her up in the morning. She’s an expert at searching YouTube to figure out how to do just about anything.  A foodie and DIYer, she believes laughter is the best medicine.

   

Melissa Steimer | Gabriel's Angels | Phoenix

Melissa Steimer started as Gabriel’s Angels Chief Executive Officer in June of 2021.  She brings extensive experience in nonprofit executive leadership, fundraising and strategic planning to support organization growth.  Most recently she was in an executive role with the Arizona Animal Welfare League. Melissa started her nonprofit career almost 24 years ago when she served in a development role for an Iowa nonprofit that served at-risk youth with specialized treatment for emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric needs. She went on to serve in numerous executive leadership roles for both local and national animal welfare organizations and prior to AAWL, was in an executive leadership role with one of Gabriel’s Angels longstanding partners, UMOM New Day Centers. Steimer holds a bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and Master of Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She is a Valley Leadership Alumni – Class 40 and is a member, and recently sat on the Board, of the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Arizona Chapter. The human-animal bond has been a personal and professional passion that drives Steimer to collaborate with more partners, across the state, who will benefit with pet therapy to inspire confidence, compassion, and best behaviors in children. Gabriel’s Angels mission is more important than ever as so many kids have been challenged in this past year with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Melissa personally is mom to two teenagers, Charlie and Grace and has five dogs.  You can easily see how she can be passionate about this mission.

   

Kin (Desmond) Siu  | Orchestra Northern Arizona | Flagstaff

Hong Kong-American conductor and violinist, he  holds the position of Artistic Director and Principal Conductor with the organization Orchestra Northern Arizona. A Master of Music graduate of Northern Arizona University, Desmond served as Assistant Director of the NAU Orchestras while working as guest Music Director with the Lyric Opera and acting Music Director with the Chamber Orchestra. Desmond’s past positions include acting Music Director and Music Coordinator for Arizona Pro Arte , Assistant Conductor positions with Orchestra Northern Arizona, the Skidmore Orchestra, as well as Music Director and founder of the Skidmore Chamber Orchestra.
