Date/Time: Wed, Sep 06, 2023 - 12:15P to 01:00P (MST-Arizona)
Speaker(s): Jennifer Preston
Location: Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Community Room

At a time when conspiracy theories and disinformation are swirling on social media and trust in the national media is at an all time low,  local journalism, news and information is more important than ever to rebuild trust in our democratic institutions and each other.  But in many parts of the country, the local newspaper, the longtime source of trusted news and information, has vanished. In Tucson, the Arizona Daily Star has been greatly diminished by relentless budget cuts from out-of-state owners. Nonprofit news organizations, such as AZ Luminaria and the Tucson Sentinel, are working to fill those gaps. How might funders become involved in the solutions to rebuild trusted news and information? We will discuss opportunities for local funder engagement and opportunities for local funders to take advantage of new national funds.

Audience:

We encourage all Arizona Grantmakers members with an interest in funding education to attend.
